This is a great album. I fell in love with ' numbers don't lie' the first time I heard it and bought the album 'What we lose in the fire we gain in the flood' as a consequence. I listened to the CD for the first time this afternoon...And then I listened to it again...and again after that. This is an album that has become an instant favourite and one to which I will always listen.

I heard this album for the first time tonight on Spotify.
I'm a huge Byrds fan and have been for more than 30 years.
This is the best live recording that I have ever heard by the Byrds and without doubt one of the greatest live recordings by any band.
'Jamaica, Say You will' is sublime. It has become one of my very favourite pieces of music.

I just listened to to 'Wanderlusting' by Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, which was recommended by mySpoonful, which is proving to be one of the best sources of new music I know. This is a great song, which I had to play again as soon as I'd heard it for the first time. Now I'm playing it for a third time. This is one of those discoveries I always hope to find - music that thrills.

This is a very interesting film that seems to have largely forgotten. I was pleased to find it because Ivan Passer's later film 'Cutter's Way' is one of my very favourites. This isn't in the same league but is not that far away in its themes. I'm surprised its been so neglected because it stands up besides better known contemporaries. Probably the closest in feel that comes to mind would be Bob Rafelson's film of the early 70s, ' The King of Marvin Gardens'

Black Death

This is a very very good film. One of the best I've seen, in the very niche genre within a genre of medieval horror films. It's very well written, well acted, well directed, with some very brutal moments. It's a deeply pessimistic film with a very downbeat,bleak ending. At times I was reminded of 'the Seventh Seal' and at others 'Witchfinder General' (a film occupying another niche with a nice-civil was set horror films).

Peter Frampton - Shepherd's Bush Empire - 5th March 2011

This was an amazing show. Two and three quarters hours of great rock music. This may be the longest show I have seen. Peter Frampton was playing with a superb band and playing heavy music. The spirit of Humble Pie was shining through. One of Frampton's guitars hadn't been played by him since he was a member of that band. I hope there is a soundboard recording of this show because it has to be one of the best rock shows I have ever seen. It would make a classic live album.The sound was mixed perfectly and the amplification was just right. Frampton is one of rock's great guitar players and tonight he was playful with genres and time periods and accompanied by a superb band. New instrumentals sat beside rockers from 40 years ago and stadium favourite. Frampton was at ease and in command of an audience of adoring fans. The encore of 'I don't need no doctor' and 'while my guitar gently weeps' were spellbinding. Its very rare I am so exhilarated by live music. If you get the chance to see the 'Thank you Mr Churchill' tour, you should. You would be missing something very very special if you didn't.

I've been listening to this on LastFM tonight. I haved loved this album since I first heard it more than 25 years ago. Among the thousands and thousands albums I have heard from the 60s and the 70s, this rates very very high, if i had to make a top 100 or even a top 10 list. It touches me as much, every time a hear it again. I hadn't heard it for too long because my copy is on vinyl and it's been a time since my turntable has spun. Tom Tykwer and Bernd Eichinger

I watched 'Perfume:the story of a murderer' again tonight.This is an exceptional film of one of my favourite books. It's a truly flawless masterpiece. It's the third film by Tom Tykwer I've seen and each one so far ('Run Lola Run' and the 'Princess and the Warrior' are the others) has been exceptional.
It's also the third excpetional film I've seen recently produced by Bernd Eichinger (the others being the 'the Bader Meinhof Complex' and 'Atomised'.

The Lodger

This is very clever piece of filmaking. I was impressed and it really kept me guessing. Based on the London based novel of the same name by Marie Belloc Lowndes, this is transposed to present day Los Angeles. Hitchcock made a film of the same novel in 1927, 13 years after its original publication. The 21st century version has some resonant echose of his work, but this is a different film altogether. Apart from working very well as an extremley dark thriller, it has some interesting and powerful things to say about madness and isolation(The strongest echo of Hitchcock from a much later film of his than the 1927 'Lodger' )It's a very well made film in every department. One you should see if you like excellent suspense films and don't mind them a little dark. Hope Davis one of the best actors working in the cinema at the moment gives an extraordinary performance in this film(which I think is oscar worthy) and the acting is uniformly very good. Daniel Ondaatje is a formidable filmaking talent.

Thinking of Hope Davis, I would recommend two of her other films if your like this. 'The Nines' and 'Arlington Road' are my next two suggestions, both of which are great and startling films.

I've been listening to two albums in the car over the last few days. Both are masterpieces and would be near the top of any list of favourite albums I was to make.
'Harmony Row' by Jack Bruce and 'Oora' by the Edgar Broughton Band transcend genre to become great pieces of art.

I didn't realise Jake Holmes wrote the words. 'Watertown' is a truly great, mesmerising piece of art and has become a favourite album after the first listen.

I saw this 1969 serial from Granada for the first time recently. For me this has to be among the best things I've ever seen on TV. I watched nearly eight hours of it in a few nights, as I was gripped. Quite unlike anything I've seen before in the gangster genre.

I have been a huge Golden Earring fan,since I heard their first live album, not long after it came out. I've waited more than 30 years to see them live. On Saturday 14th March at the Shepherds Bush Empire I was blown away by being something near genius. I hope London will be a destination again soon for Golden Earring. The cd player in my car is broken and had been for a couple of weeks. It won't eject the disc. I'm still enjoying to the cd that's in the player. Robert Jan Stips is a musical hero and 'Greyhound' is one of the best things he's done.

I’ve been listening to this for the first time in a few years tonight. It’s an essential album for me. One that I return to again and again and again since first hearing it in an attic in den Haag seven years ago.
Although it would be next to impossibble for me to decided on a list of all time top ten albums, ‘Nact en Ontij' would be on it.

Hannibal Rising

I watched 'Hannibal Rising' last night. I'm a big fan of Thomas Harris' novels and the films that have been made from them. Harris is a good a script writer as a novelist and his script is in the hands of some excellent filmakers. This film is a great cinematic experience. While watching the film that came to mind was 'Perfume'(an excellent film of a great novel.

Accident

For Christmas I was given a box set of Joseph Losey films by my wife. I watched 'Accident' for the first time in about 20 years on the evening of Christmas Day. Earlier in the evening I had watched the announcement of Harold Pinter's death on the news. 'Accident' was a film that left an indelible impression on me as a teenager and as a young man but I hadn't been able to see it for years. Seeing it again my belief was re-inforced that this is one of the best films of the 60s and one of the best films in world cinema. The writing direction and acting, photography, set design, sound and editing are as good as you will find in cinema. The film based on the novel by Nicholas Mosley (one of the greatest and undercelebrated English Novelists.) Pinter's script takes the source and creates another work that stands beside and apart from a great novel.
