Bold Marauder - Kendra Smith

This is only the 3rd cover I've heard of Richard Farina's masterpiece. The others are by Plainsong and John Kay. This is in their league. I'd be very interested to hear any recommendations of other great cover versions of the 'Bold Marauder'.

Wanderlusting - Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast

I just listened to to 'Wanderlusting' by Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, which was recommended by mySpoonful, which is proving to be one of the best sources of new music I know. This is a great song, which I had to play again as soon as I'd heard it for the first time. Now I'm playing it for a third time. This is one of those discoveries I always hope to find - music that thrills.

Phil Ochs: there but for fortune

http://www.crawdaddy.com/index.php/2011/03/25/phil-ochs-a-folk-legend-lost-and-the-film-that-revived-him/

It is so good to see that Phil Ochs' music is going to be part of the lives of a new generation who discover him through this film. He was one of the saddest and most truly brilliant singer songwriters of his era.

This band was recommended on the psychedelica mailing list. I'm an instant fan.

Avi Buffalo - What's it in for?

I can't get this song out of my head. It has sunk in deeper into my consciousness then almost anything I've heard, for quite a while. The harmonies at the end of the recording are astonishing.

Born to win

This is a very interesting film that seems to have largely forgotten. I was pleased to find it because Ivan Passer's later film 'Cutter's Way' is one of my very favourites. This isn't in the same league but is not that far away in its themes. I'm surprised its been so neglected because it stands up besides better known contemporaries. Probably the closest in feel that comes to mind would be Bob Rafelson's film of the early 70s, ' The King of Marvin Gardens'
